Working as a painter involves a starting point or source material that often comes from everyday life. The natural environment of Westmoreland is a stimulus for a series of paintings that are named in the Shepherds counting score; Yan, Tan, Tethera, Methera.... as they represent many versions of a loved place. A playful interaction with materials is how these images begin to evolve. My painting journey has focused on metaphor or poetry of place. As a child, born in the Lake District, I have made paintings of water and of weather.
