Hanwell Pottery
Hanwell Pottery is a thriving ceramics studio based at Hanwell Community Centre, where there has been a pottery since the 1960s.
Weekly classes run throughout the school year, during mornings, evenings and some weekend sessions with capacity for over 120 students, although not all at once!
In addition to our regular classes, Taster sessions are available for people to spend 3 hours exploring clay, allowing them to decide whether to delve deeper into the vast and varied world of ceramics and making.
Hanwell Pottery is a space where there is a shared love of working with clay, where individuals develop skills and have an opportunity to experiment and be creative. Students vary widely in age (from 18 up), background and experience, some having attended classes at the studio for over a decade.
All students work on their own projects in the large communal space, which is well-equipped with tools and equipment, catering for wheel-throwing, hand-building and sculpture. Colour and texture incorporated into students’ work, using a wide variety of slips and glazes before firing in the centre’s kilns, ensure that each piece is truly unique.
Over 30 of Hanwell Pottery students will be selling their work at BEAT 2024, representing the diversity of work produced in the studio, including sculpture, decorations, jewellery and lots of functional ware. You can see information about the makers and a selection of their work on our website www.hanwellpottery.co.uk ,you can also meet them during Beat 2024 to talk about their favourite subject – ceramics!
