Sarah Knight
Sarah takes inspiration from textures and light in the natural world. Each piece usually starts as a reflection on a place travelled to. They develop from pencil sketches focused on composition, line and form. She is both a painter and printmaker, and the attention to surface and texture within her paintings is influenced by printing techniques.
The original prints have been carefully handmade by the artist using the linocut printing technique. Each design is a limited edition. Each print has pencil details added and is signed by the artist. Because of the method and the hand finishing, each impression is unique.
Sarah paints textured semi-abstract oils, loosely defined sea and landscapes from memory, layering up the oil paint with rollers and palette knives. Now London based, Sarah grew up in the Cotswold countryside and is influenced by these landscapes from her early years. Her most recent works are more mixed media in nature, blending acrylic, oils, pastels and charcoal to explore surface and mark-making in a less constrained way.
