what inspired beat?

KITTY HARTNELL - BEAT CO-FOUNDER & FIRST CHAIR

The Borough of Ealing Art Trail is now over ten years old! Each year there are two weekends to discover, browse and maybe buy local art. Where ever you go, whoever you meet, whatever art you discover, you will have a wonderful few days.

Like all the best ideas, the Borough of Ealing Art Trail [BEAT] started as a vague concept, discussed over many years by local artists. Ealing was one of the few boroughs in West London without an art trail and something needed to be done!

So, in September 2015 a small group of local artists got together and BEAT was born! The first event was held in September 2016 and amazingly attracted some 130 artists wanting to exhibit in 54 venues across the borough. By the second year this number had increased to over 180 artists and now, with the support of the many enthusiastic visitors, BEAT consistently attracts over 200 artists displaying and selling their work every year.

The original concept of BEAT was to encourage local artists – both amateur and professional - to demonstrate their talents and show off their work, enabling the public to have an opportunity of meeting artists face-to-face in their various venues, buy their work and recognise the depth and range of local artistic talent in Ealing.

Over the last ten years, this has been achieved. It has become a keenly anticipated, well established, local cultural event and has created a strong dynamic for the development of art and artistic talents across the borough.

BEAT would not have been possible without the tireless support of the numerous volunteers involved over the years, for the generous support of various local organisations and for the creative support of our design team. We thank you all and hope that BEAT will continue to encourage, inspire and amaze for many years to come.
