Vicky Saumarez

Vicky Saumarez comes from an academic art background having trained in figurative art in Florence, Italy, at a specialist realist art school. She uses her classical knowledge in her paintings and drawings, while adding humour and experimentation to her work.

Her speciality is portraiture and the human form, which lead to her being invited to participate in Sky’s Portrait Artist of the Year in 2020 during lockdown, an experience she embraced with huge enthusiasm and enjoyment.

As well as working on her own subjects, Vicky has been teaching art to adults for several years, running local life drawing and portrait courses, 'drink & draw' and specialist courses for the Royal Academy and City Academy in town. Recently she took over as tutor to the 4020 Art Group teaching all aspects of drawing and painting. She is keen to share her knowledge and encourages participants to feel comfortable to share their work, giving constructive feedback and encouragement to students of all levels of ability on their creative journey.
