Returning for their fifth BEAT, artist-educators Mary and Mardi share a passion for creativity and a deep appreciation of the natural world. Both artists are inspired by nature and enjoy working with mixed media, combining materials and processes to create unique pieces whilst sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with students and the wider community.

Mary specialises in highly detailed, hand-drawn custom illustrations. Working closely with clients to create meaningful artworks by filling a chosen shape, letter or significant number with small, intricate drawings that represent the personal interests, memories and milestones of the recipient. These thoughtful pieces become treasured keepsakes that celebrate special moments and occasions. Alongside commissioned work Mary produces original artworks inspired by birds, botanicals and music resulting in distinctive one-off pieces, greeting cards and prints. Mary runs a popular Ceramics Club and provides specialised art support for both primary and secondary schools. With a love for vintage objects and reclaimed materials, she particularly enjoys contributing her skills to community and school projects, finding creative ways to repurpose materials.

Mardi explores the patterns, textures, and intricate details found in nature, particularly the delicate and often overlooked lines created by trees. Using a combination of acrylic paint, inks and gel printing she builds layered landscapes that capture the hidden structures of the natural world. Recently she has been drawn to the complex forms of tree branches and the seemingly random yet balanced ways they grow and intersect. Through a range of techniques Mardi experiments, allowing organic patterns to emerge through her process. Encouraging viewers to pause and observe the subtle beauty, reminding us that inspiration can be found in even the smallest natural details.
