Assia Bennani

My name is Assia, I am a Moroccan artist living in Ealing.

I grew up in Casablanca and spent the last 20 years between Paris and Hong Kong where I worked as an interior designer and wall decorative painter.

My semi-figurative paintings are a space of exploration where I aim to create visual bridges between different realities, cultures and time frames in a dreamlike atmosphere.

I mostly use acrylic paint but enjoy other mediums like ink, gouache or oil paint.

I take inspiration from my multicultural journey, memories, daily scenes and architectural details around me. I seek to capture those quiet but moving moments that shape us.

In this precious space of freedom, figuration will sometimes play with abstraction, vibrant colours converse with muted ones and rough textures with delicate details.

I enjoy translating the contrasts and paradoxes that we often meet in our everyday lives through painting. They are part of us and contribute to the diversity and nuances of our world.

Each painting is an attempt to find a sense of harmony amidst these forces.

Beside my art practice, I welcome every Friday in my home studio a group of art enthusiasts who would like to introduce more art making in their life. If this is you, please check my website for more info at https://www.assiabennani.com/classes .
I've crafted these classes to be inclusive, invigorating, and adaptable to your proficiency and aspirations. There's no judgment or expectation of a specific outcome. It's about exploration and the journey!
