Patrycja Lidia Lewowicka

I am a figurative painter who experiments with variation of contemporary and modern styles. A lot of my inspiration comes from impressionists such as Edward Munch and contemporary figurative and surrealist painters such as Alex Katz, Peter Doig, Wayne Thiebaud. In my pieces I am usually aiming for the balanced combination of bold and subtle textures and colours. Pastels show up very often in my paintings, and that makes them easy to look at. The lack of proper forms and subtle abstractions create a subtle suspense and imagination between the viewer and the work. Most of my images come from the combination of my memories and photographs or various scenes and people. While I paint I incorporate my emotions and moods onto the canvases, which then creates another layer of meaning behind each piece as if they were a timeline of my life journey and self discovery. Sometimes what helps me create emotional visual effects is listening to melodic music while creating the painting. Getting my feelings out onto canvas also helps me to move forward and leaving certain obstacles behind, and memorise as much of the good things that life has to offer as possible. As a part of my development I am working towards creating images that audiences can relate to, by simplifying shapes of objects and people into more dreamy and surrealistic representations. Most of the paintings are created through applying paint onto canvas directly and experimenting with what colours and shapes work together throughout the process. I try to dissolve the boundary between classical oil painting look and more modern textures and details.
