Maria Murtagh

I started potting many years ago - almost too many- but my love affair with clay has kept me focused and sane down those years and I never cease to be thankful for discovering the joy of creating something from a lump of mud. There is something very special about using a pot that has been made by hand and feeling the mark of the maker in how it has been finished and decorated. Each piece has its own 'voice' and presence.

All my pots are individually hand thrown on the potters wheel. I mix up my own glazes and fire my work to 1280 degrees. My designs are inspired by nature, oriental ceramics and Celtic art and each piece is decorated by hand. I love making pots and I hope that the joy I experience shows in the finished pieces which are made to be handled, loved and enjoyed. I get great pleasure from people commenting that they are still using the jug, bowl or mug that they bought from me years ago. You are very welcome to join us for BEAT again this year and yes, there will be cake!
