Elinor Percival
I am a Christian artist with a background in multi-media textile design. I am primarily inspired by colour and light, which are common themes in my work.
During my degree in textile design, I worked with various materials ranging from silk to sheet copper, which has informed my current practise and my love of experimentation in different media. Much of my initial work as an artist drew inspiration from stained glass, and I now use glass as a medium to further explore the interaction of colour and light.
These themes are also present in my paintings, which range from watercolour to oils.
I love the contrast between the delicate detail that can be achieved with oil painting and watercolour, and the distillation of form down to bold lines and blocks of colour that stained glass provides.
My Christian faith and my passion for environmental conservation are the backbone for what I create. The intricate beauty of nature is a constant source of inspiration, and I paint using bold colour and shallow depth of field in an attempt to bring focus to it. Enjoying the natural world is one way I connect with God, and I hope to bring some of that feeling of joy and wonder to others through my art.
