Sarah Stanley Mosaics
I create original contemporary mosaics - each work is completely unique; hand-made using traditional techniques using materials as diverse as vitreous glass, porcelain, ceramic, mirror, stone and marble.
My mosaic pieces are predominantly abstract and with a very limited colour palette, using shade, tone, hue, texture, cutting and laying to create depth and interest and to emphasize the unique qualities of each material.
I have been making mosaic pieces for nearly 20 years and I am completely inspired by the huge potential of the materials, their colours and textures and the vagaries of hand-cutting which mean that every single piece will be completely different – a marriage of the head, the heart, the hands and the materials.
Based full-time in my riverside studio in Brentford, I work extensively to commission and exhibit regularly in London and the South East. I also teach adult classes and weekend workshops.
I am a professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic (BAMM) and a founder member of Johnsons Island Artists. I am Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Southbank Mosaics CIC (based in Waterloo in central London) and the London School of Mosaic.
