My journey in art began in early childhood, with both my mother and grandmother being artists. My style has evolved over time, which has a lot to do with these early years, when I had the freedom to experiment endlessly with colour and various mediums. Looking back, I realize that It was during this time that I was able to absorb a variety of ideas, concepts and techniques in art from my artist family which is something I still draw upon today.
I have lived in Sri Lanka, Zambia and Kenya before arriving in the U.K. in the early ‘80’s as an undergraduate. Having studied English literature at university, I often find inspiration through descriptions of nature found in literature and poetry. Inspiration also comes from memories of the places I have lived in during the past, and well as from my everyday surroundings. The paintings often depict natural spaces, favouring the vast expanse of the ocean, the rising and setting sun, woodland scenes, as well as climate and season related settings. The chosen subject matter intends to promote vibes that are filled with harmony, peace and tranquillity, through the use of lighting and colour, to create the mood. I paint mostly on canvases or canvas paper with acrylic paint, but also work with watercolour, oil pastels and charcoals occasionally.
