Lucy Kelsall

Lucy is a printer and bookbinder whose work includes letterpress and linocut prints, small editions of artists' books and unusual hand-bound notebooks. She creates work as Frazil Press, and has contributed to collaborative print projects for the Bodleian Library, the Oxford Guild of Printers and the Virginia Center for the Book.

Lucy enjoys incorporating ephemeral and found materials into her bindings: these include foreign-language comics, old instruction manuals, driftwood, nature-printed papers, and thermochromatic film. Her prints often combine text and image, using traditional letterpress techniques and printing primarily on a small Adana press.

Both her binding work and her artists’ books are informed by her experience as a rare materials librarian. Lucy also runs workshops on practical printing and print history and loves to introduce people to the craft of letterpress printing.
