Jim Williamson

I am inspired by the paintings and prints of German Expressionists. My work is based on my own photographs; old postcards and views of places that evoke happy times spent with an old friend. My ceramics are a mixture of fantasy and memories of childhood. I wish to create painterly surfaces on three dimensional objects.

I try to express my love of favourite places: London, Cheshire, Yorkshire and my birthplace in West Cumberland. I paint using a limited pallet to experiment with composition and colour. My prints are a mixture of manipulated photographs and digital paintings with digital and traditional collage. Use of new technology offers the artist infinite possibilities of reworking old compositions.
