Clay Evolution

Janet White, Zelide Edge and Helen Ridgway form Clay Evolution. They represent three distinctive styles of beautifully hand-crafted ceramics including sculptural/decorative pieces and functional ware.

Janet’s current range of ceramics are inspired by the sea. She uses a combination of glazes, made in her studio in Acton, to evoke the movement, texture and colours of seascapes. Her vessels include wheel thrown vases, miniature pots as well as hand built seashells.

Zelide’s work explores rhythms through pattern and texture. Creating and applying the pattern has a repetitive beat which forms part of the exploration of rhythm. Works are wheel thrown or slip cast in white stoneware; decorated with coloured slip.

Helen is a potter who works in stoneware using hand building and slip casting techniques. Her range of lidded vessels are decorated with sprigs (clay shapes made in moulds). Helen makes her sprigs from found and discarded objects that no longer have a use, by putting them at the centre of her work she gives them a new lease of life. Helen also makes ceramic buttons perfect for knitters and sewing enthusiasts.
