Tracy Burgess is an Abstract Painter working in acrylics, Mixed Media Drawing and Photography, exhibiting in London galleries. She is a fully qualified tutor with over 20 years teaching experience and runs drawing classes in Ealing, as well as outdoor drawing field trips and one to one private tuition in drawing and painting.
Her work is gestural and emotive and explores movement and spontaneity, expressed through a layering of painted and drawn moments. Her focus is on movement, both physical and visual and allowing a creative freedom of expression to flow and evolve, through body and paint.
The paintings are purely abstract, both large scale and small works. The drawings are mainly semi abstract with the same expressive energy, but worked from subject matter - landscape, human form, dancers or place. Her approach is influenced by Eastern practices of Spontaneous Qigong, Somatic Movement practices and Dance, which are integral to her creative process.
She studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in the early 90's where she specialised in Sound Installation and Time Based work. And also has a very comprehensive grounding in drawing and painting, later to include printmaking, which has informed her vivid use of colour and paint. A long period of physical ill-health led to finding and developing the innovative approaches which have significantly enhanced her creativity and are now firmly embedded in her very intuitive, sensual and embodied way of working.
She also works closely in collaboration with dancers, choreographers and musicians exploring the interplay between art forms and is an Associate of SpiralArts Dance Theatre company.
