Diane and Maggie

Even where I live, in London, there is colour and drama in the surroundings – the warmth of brick, the coolness of tower blocks, wide skies and people acting out their lives.

I paint almost exclusively in oils that I find help me to capture the depth and texture of these surroundings and the movements – fluid, awkward, expressive - of the people within them.

I have always felt an affinity with art and all things arty. From an early age I would draw everything and anything around me and remember winning an area schools competition aged around 8 years old for a drawing of a Stradivarius Violin which was loaned to our class by the musician owner - a brave man indeed! I studied Art at college but never completed the course as life got in the way.... In the last few years my love affair with arts has re surfaced. This started after attending quarterly workshop groups. I received immense satisfaction from the experiences of just immersing oneself in the different themes at the time.

In Jan 2015 I joined the 4020 art group and have not looked back. I have grown as an artist with great guidance from the tutor and also from being part of the group. I enjoy working amongst others. I enjoy all mediums especially oils - why? And pastels, charcoal - why? And figurative drawing/painting, en plein air, abstract, mixed media and have interests in sculpture for the vibrancy and colour in African art and the story telling in Aboriginal art. I look forward to participating in this Art trail to continue my journey
